Horrified is a co-operative board game that pits the player against classic Universal movie monsters in what must be the most unfortunate town in the world.

The difficulty of the game is determined by which of the six (seven, if you include Frankenstein's monster AND his bride) monsters that you select to face off against. Each monster has their own set of movement and attack rules, as well as unique victory conditions to feed them their defeat. You will play as one of seven heroes, each of whom also have their own unique movement rules, starting locations and special abilities.

During the gameplay, you will move your heroes around the board, saving villagers, avoiding monsters and collecting the tools you will need to destroy charismatic Dracula's many coffins, send a ship to locate the secretive Creature from the Black Lagoon or entomb the shambling Mummy. The rulebook has a recommendation for the first game to ease into the rules and player actions, but once you've got a couple rounds under your belt, it flows very easily.

This game is perfect for families any time of year, but especially fun close to Halloween. It takes about an hour and, being a co-operative game, makes for a fun team effort. No hurt feelings here! Just hurt monsters. The many strategies you'll need to employ to defeat the various adversaries keep replays fresh and interesting. The art throughout the game's components is delightfully evocative of classic movie monsters. The monster miniatures are super detailed and dynamic and they paint up great, if you're into that kind of thing. And you've got to love a game with a solo option for those times when you just want to hunker down in a candlelit basement with snacks just for you and face off against monsters on your own!

And if you like this game, keep an eye out for Horrified: American Monsters, which should be available some time next year!
